Costa da Morte strengthens its leadership in astrotourism at the 8th Starlight International Meeting (Soria)

The Costa da Morte Astrotourism Association took part this week in the 8th Starlight International Meeting held in Soria, the world’s leading forum for astrotourism and dark-sky protection. The goal was to boost Costa da Morte as a Starlight Destination and to cement partnerships around a model of sustainable, responsible, high-quality tourism.

The delegation included president Yolanda Díaz, vice-president Nieves Lema, and the Costa da Morte Starlight GuidesCharo Couto, Bego Brao, and Antón Pazos. They were joined by CMAT vice-president and Cee mayor Margarita Lamela, and Turismo de Galicia promotion director Carmen Pita, underscoring institutional backing for the Costa da Morte Starlight Destination project.

A Starlight Destination with a unique identity

Throughout the meeting, the association exchanged best practices with international initiatives, highlighting the natural and cultural heritage of Costa da Morte, its network of certified professionals, and its commitment to science communication and nature conservation as pillars of a transformative tourism model.

2026 Eclipse: scientific opportunity and local driver

The training programme featured talks on the 2026 Eclipse, one of the decade’s most anticipated astronomical events. The association stressed planning, public awareness, and inter-territorial cooperation to harness this milestone —which will place Galicia among the world’s best vantage points— as a lever for local development and knowledge outreach.

Commitment to dark skies and responsible tourism

By joining the Soria gathering, the Costa da Morte Astrotourism Association reaffirms its role within an international network that protects starry skies as common heritage and promotes cooperation toward a more sustainable and inspiring tourism model. The organisation will remain active in events and projects that strengthen the Costa da Morte Starlight Destination as a benchmark for astrotourism in Galicia.
