Find out more about Dolmen Pedra da Arca

Pedra da Arca dates from the period between 3500 and 2700 B.C., the phase of maximum splendor of the megalithic culture. Part of the mámoa (earth that covered the dolmen) is still preserved, in which the remains of a stone breastplate can be seen.

It is one of the largest dolmens in Galicia, with a polygonal chamber and an east-facing corridor. It consists of a roof stone, which is split in half (the negative of the hole is still visible in the center of the fracture line) and six vertical chants that serve as support.

The roof has a length of 4 meters by a width of 1.80 meters, with an average thickness of 70 cm. As for the chantos, the tallest measures 2.50 meters by 1.90 meters wide and the smallest, 1.90 meters high by 1 meter wide.

If you are more of a legend and mystery, you should know that tradition says that a Moorish woman built Pedra da Arca. She did so by carrying the stones on her head while spinning and breastfeeding a child.
