Find out more about Entrecruces or San Paio Waterfall

The Entrecruces or San Paio Waterfall, in the municipality of Carballo, is one of the most impressive natural sites in the Bergantiños area and a must-see for anyone wishing to explore the greener, inland side of the Costa da Morte. Located in San Paio, in the parish of San Xens de Entrecruces, this waterfall is formed by the Outón River, which drops here from a height of around 40 metres, creating a striking natural scene surrounded by riverside vegetation.

The route to San Paio Waterfall starts near the chapel of San Paio, which is also one of the access points to the PR-G 142 Ruta das Férvedas walking trail. From there, a signposted path leads visitors towards the waterfall, following the sound of the river through a peaceful wooded setting. Along the way, the landscape reveals old restored watermills and the remains of the former hydroelectric power station, built around 1915, which supplied the first electricity to the town of Carballo.

The geological origin of the waterfall is linked to the Depresión Meridiana, a system of faults that explains the sharp difference in height between the upper lands and the valley. When the river carries plenty of water, the Entrecruces Waterfall becomes a powerful display of sound, movement and natural beauty; at quieter times, it still keeps its intimate and magical atmosphere. This is an ideal place to walk, connect with nature and discover one of the most evocative landscapes in Carballo and the Bergantiños region.
