Costa da Morte, Naturally Unique: Starting Today, a Chapter-by-Chapter Series to Discover the Destination

Starting today, we’re launching a series of articles based on the book “Costa da Morte, Naturally Unique”, with texts by Xan Fernández Carrera and photographs by Antonio Fernández. The series will be published on the website and shared on CMAT’s social media channels, as part of a strategy promoted by APTCM with the support of Turismo de Galicia.

There are places you can’t understand through a “top 10” list. Places that require time, context, and a careful gaze. Costa da Morte is one of them: a land shaped by the Atlantic, where every lighthouse has its story and identity is felt in the way people live and welcome you. That’s why, starting today, we’re launching a very special series on visitacostadamorte.com: a collection of articles we’ll publish chapter by chapter, to explore the geodestination slowly and in depth.

This series is part of the book “Costa da Morte, Naturally Unique”, featuring texts by Xan Fernández Carrera and photographs by Antonio Fernández. It was created to highlight and organise Costa da Morte’s tourism resources, strengthen collaboration between public administrations, tourism professionals, and the local associative fabric, and remind us of something essential: this destination is best understood when it is told from the inside, with respect and pride.

Behind this initiative is the Asociación de Profesionais do Sector Turístico da Costa da Morte (APTCM), which is driving it as part of an ambitious content and digitalisation strategy. It is only fair to name one of the key forces behind this journey: Pepe Formoso, president of APTCM, a strong advocate of a vision committed to original, carefully crafted, identity-driven content—helping to place Costa da Morte on a higher level in its positioning as a destination.

Along the same lines of ongoing institutional support, this strategy has also been backed by José Manuel Merelles, Director of Turismo de Galicia, who has accompanied and promoted this approach alongside Pepe Formoso, recognising the importance of building tourism products that are well told, coherent, and connected to the real character of the geodestination.

The publication—promoted by APTCM, a CMAT partner representing the private sector—was developed thanks to the financial support of the Xunta de Galicia. Presented in Galician, Spanish, and English, it explores the landscape, cultural, and heritage richness of the 17 municipalities that make up the geodestination. Lighthouses and cliffs, fishing towns, historic routes, living traditions, ocean-facing beaches, and unique natural areas: each chapter invites you to look at the map differently, with more context and more emotion.

In addition, as part of the same project, the complete digitalisation of the book was carried out, and this series is specifically designed to bring that content to the website in an organised, accessible, and useful way. A key step in making visitacostadamorte.com an ever-stronger reference for a sustainable destination—well narrated, with its own voice—where every visit to the site can also feel like a small journey.

And so that no one misses the route, each new chapter will be published on the website and also shared on CMAT’s social media channels, inviting you to follow the series, save it, and return to it when you’re planning your next getaway—or when you simply feel like taking a glimpse of Costa da Morte from home.

Welcome to Costa da Morte, Naturally Unique. Starting today, the journey begins.
